Old Edo Farm House
There is also an old farm house from the Edo period within five minutes walk of Nikko Park Lodge. It is on display to the public so you can walk inside and enjoy the beauty of traditional tatami mats and sliding doors. The roof is thatched and if you look up you can admire the bare rafters. Farming tools and household goods are also exhibited. This is a perfect spot to sit and relax before continuing down the road to the shrines and temples. A Kind old lady will greet you and offer you tea. You can really feel the atmosphere of the old Japanese house here, why not drop on by!

As well as the World heritage areas and amusement parks there are a number of small attractions within the vicinity of Nikko Park Lodge. These can offer the visitor a more personal experience of Nikko, different to that which is experienced by the usual day visitor.
There is a Woodcraft centre which is only a minute walk awayfrom the lodge. Nikko-bori carving, vermilion lacquered painting, wooden clogs, and tea sets are all displayed. You can also watch the manufacturing process of these crafts.
One of the most satisfying experiences you can enjoy is to make your own carving on any of a number of wooden objects. You can choose from hand mirrors to trays, plates or a wooden container. Prices range from 800�� to about 3000��. All you need to do is choose one of these items and the carving lesson is free.
You will be shown a range of different designs and you can choose which one you would like to carve. Why not carve your own three monkeys or sleeping cat!For those that don`t know these are the famous designs from Nikko`s Toshogu Shrine.
Nikko is known for the beauty of its elaborate carvings on its shrines. This is a perfect way to take a piece of Nikko home with you for a reasonable price and memorable experience.
