Yoga Classes

Guests can sign up for daily Yoga classes at the front desk. The one hour classes are ¥800 and start at 7am in the Yoga Ashram room at the end of the main hallway downstairs through the French door.

Services

Here at Nikko Park Lodge, we offer a variety of services including a daily shuttle van to the train station at 9:30am, daily Zen Yoga classes at 7am, vegan options on the menu such as our Zen dinner and, a pick-up service from 3pm until 5pm for afternoon arrivals from the train station. We also offer guided tours if the area when our guests show enthusiasm for such a service. Our friendly staff are always available to help give advice and directions to local attractions. Our cozy lounge area boasts a few guitars, some souvenirs, internet, and a DVD player and television. We also have an information library of pamphlets, booklets and maps to help our guests navigate the myriad of tourist options here in Nikko. Whether it be hiking, history, culture, festivals or waterfalls, Nikko has something for everybody.

General Lodge Information

FRONT DESK HOURS – Lodge hours of operation are from 8am until 10am and, 3pm until 10pm. If there appears to be no one at the front desk, please ring the silver bell and someone will be right with you.

CHECK-IN – Check-in is between 3 and 9pm daily. If you arrive early, you may leave your luggage by the fireplace in the lounge but please understand that we are not responsible for lost possessions. If you will arrive late, please call us to let us know.

MEAL RESERVATIONS – Please reserve breakfast meals the night before and dinner no later than 4:30pm the same night. Breakfast is served between 8 and 9am. Dinner is served at 6:30pm. Your promptness is much appreciated.

SHUTTLE VAN – If you are checking out, guests can sign up for our daily 9:30am shuttle van to the train stations at the front desk. Pick-up service is available from 3-5pm.

GUIDED TOURS – We sometimes offer guided tours of the Nikko area for a minimum of 6 people at ¥4000 each. Past guests have really loved this service because of the local knowledge offered during the tour. Please ask our staff if the service is available during your stay.

Temples

If you only have one half day to visit Nikko, the Temple area is where your feet should take you. Nikko Temples are classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO (a United Nations organization). Our local Temples are some of the most decorative and ornate in all of Japan with a host of craftsmen maintaining them over the centuries. Even the trees in Nikko are protected under World Heritage status, lending itself well to housing some of the largest and oldest trees in Japan. click to read more...

Shinkyo Sacred Bridge

Legend has it that the hermit who settled Nikko was carried across the river here by two serpents. In feudal times, the sacred bridge could be used only by the emperor. The Shinkyo has long been considered one of the most beautiful structures in Japan, its simple elegance contrasting with the wildness of the river gorge, the green hills, and the tumbling waters. From here, a road leads into the park, threading through 16,000 towering cedar trees.

Sakura and Tsutsuji (spring cherry blossoms & azaleas)

Nikko is unique in its location in terms of the tree blossom season. Because it is a mountainous region with mostly rural and wild landscapes, there are many varieties of cherry trees, azaleas and rhododendrons in bloom over several months. This is because the topography of the area allows for staggered blooming.

Nikko Beer Brewery

Excite your taste buds with the savory flavors of Nikko beer at the local Nikko Beer brewery, a 5 minute walk from Nikko Park Lodge. Here you can try several kinds of beer starting at 500¥. Young people can enjoy ice cream and afterwards you can walk next door for either horseback riding, woodcarving at the Wood Carving Centre or, try catching your dinner at the fishing pond next door with the whole family.

Yayoi Matsuri (Spring Festival)

Procession of a Thousand Warriors

Procession of a Thousand Warriors Every year around the 16th and 17th of May and October, Nikko citizens gather to celebrate the sacred Toshogu Shrine and its surrounding World Heritage Shrines and Temples. This festival involves a procession of 1000 warriors, some on horseback, all in traditional samurai regalia, children and some women. click to read more...

Highlights from Nikko, Japan

Nikko Wood Carving Center

Right next door to Nikko Park Lodge is the Woodcarving Centre, a special place where the cultural heritage of this area is preserved by keeping the wood carving practice alive.

Onsens (hot springs)

Nikko is blessed with many natural hot springs called onsen in Japanese. There are several hot springs within a few minutes walking distance form Nikko Park Lodge. The closest onsen to Nikko Park Lodge is about a 4 minute walk and only costs 400¥. Others vary in price. Some are small and self-serve while others have welcoming staff - click to read more
