Onsens (hot springs)
Onsen (hot spings) Nikko is blessed with many natural hot springs called onsen in Japanese. There are several hot springs within a few minutes walking distance form Nikko Park Lodge. The closest onsen to Nikko Park Lodge is about a 4 minute walk and only costs 400¥. Others vary in price. Some are small and self-serve while others have welcoming staff, several baths with different mineral waters, massage chairs, tatami (straw mat floor) rooms for napping, and even licensed bars.
If bigger is better for you, there are several large onsen facilities within a short bus ride away. All tickets can be purchased at the tourist information centre in the train terminals downtown Nikko. If you are feeling adventurous, take the Yumoto Onsen bus which costs 3300¥ round trip or, go for the cheaper deal at 3000¥ for a two day pass! It takes about 1 hour by bus to the small town of Yumoto Onsen Resort. The town is full of hotels which you can pay to enjoy their unique style of hot spring. Look around a bit and you can find the natural bubbling mud flat where the hotels pump the hot spring waters from. Try dipping your feet into the bubbling puddles and compare temperatures. If requested, we occasionally offer guided tours of the area and sometimes visit onsen as well for a minimum of 4 people at 4000¥ per person. Please ask us!
